Greco di Tufo DOCG

Società Agricola Colli di Castelfranci
Campania, Italy

Confusing though it is, don’t be misled by the name, this grape has nothing to do with Greece. Its origins lie firmly in Italy, in the town of Tufo and Avellino in the hills of Campania in central Italy, overlooking the wonderful Amalfi coastline and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Only 8 villages in this region can legally call their wines “Greco di Tufo”, making this a truly exciting discovery by our intrepid team of sommeliers.

The word “Greco” is thought to come from the fact that this grape variety was often used to make sweet (or Greek-style) wines. Interestingly, the tuffaceous soils we find in the area contain white porous volcanic rock which is also called “Tufo”.

Colli di Castelfranci is a story of resilience. Young people who believe in the immense potential of a wine-growing area where their grandparents and their fathers raised them, united by one great passion: to continue producing wine in their homeland. The ancient wine-making tradition continues to be handed down from generation to generation in the winery. Their fathers’ foresight has allowed them to combine ancient winemaking techniques with the latest modern technologies, thus producing refined wines that result from a combination of traditional methodologies and contemporary processes.

Our Vinum Masters Greco di Tufo has a beautiful pale-yellow hue with gold highlights, notes of orange blossom and ripe stone fruits with a pronounced minerality. Both delicate and precise on the palate, with an enduring finish.

A very food-friendly wine, classic recommendations would include a heirloom tomato and Burrata caprese salad, or perhaps grilled sea bass with Mediterranean vegetables.
