Franciacorta Satèn Millesimato

Società Agricola Tenuta Ambrosini
Lombardy, Italy

Franciacorta protected and controlled area is made up of 19 towns in the Brescia province in Lombardy, Italy, with production in only 121 wineries.

In our search for wine undiscovered treasures across Europe, our sommeliers had no doubt they had to explore the Franciacorta region for the Vinum Masters Heritage Collection. Here they found the special Tenuta Ambrosini, an independent family winery run by the Ambrosini family, in the 3rd generation dedicated to viticulture.

The Franciacorta exceptional terroir is the result of the melting of a glacier 10,000 years ago, which left a valley with a variety of soil types which are all great for wine growing. It was not until 1957 that the region became officially recognised, and it was only elevated to DOCG status in 1995. DOCG stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita and this is the highest quality level used in Italian winemaking.

Four grape varieties are allowed in the region; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Erbamat (only recently added to the list).

Grapes used for Franciacorta production are harvested by hand, and the juice is fermented in stainless-steel tanks or in oak barrels. The following spring, this “base wine” is blended and bottled, with the bubbles being created as a by-product of a second fermentation in the bottle. The CO2 produced is trapped in the bottle and is dissolved into the wine. Before the wine can be sold, it must be aged for a minimum of 18 months.

Vinum Masters Franciacorta Satèn Millesimato showcases the finest of Franciacorta winemaking. It has fresh floral and light citrus notes, supported by a pure minerality, finesse and elegance. This vintage Franciacorta with velvety bubbles has many of the characteristics of the finest sparkling wines in the world.

Satèn wines are brut only and can only be made with Chardonnay and a maximum of 50% Pinot Blanc with a minimum of 2 years aging. Vintage Franciacorta must contain 85% of a single vintage and an aging period of 30 months on the lees, which gives the wine better texture with toasted bread and brioche notes.

Vinum Masters Franciacorta is very flexible in terms of food pairings. Great for aperitif, but would work wonders with a prawn ceviche. You could even surprise your guests with crispy popcorn chicken!
